In April, 2009, President Barack Obama signed legislation that officially establishes September 11 as a Federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance.

By pledging to volunteer, perform good deeds, or engage in other forms of charitable service during the week of 9/11, schools and organizations can help rekindle the remarkable spirit of unity, service and compassion shared by so many in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

In support of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which establishes September 11 as a National day of service and recognition, the Foundation provides assistance in developing 9-11 curriculum units to various training programs and educators.
